Living with Fibromyalgia
I suppose the best word to describe people that have Fibromyalgia is frustrated. Over the years I have treated many people in the greater Cincinnati area that have Fibromyalgia. In many instances, these patients were asymptomatic prior to a physical or emotional trauma. In other cases, they had been ill or recently had surgery. Some of these individuals have had mild cases others severe.
What is Fibromyalgia?
Fibromyalgia is a chronic condition characterized by fatigue and widespread pain in the muscles, ligaments and tendons. The diagnosis of fibromyalgia usually includes a history of at least three months of widespread muscle pain accompanied by pain and tenderness in at least 11 of the 18 “tender points.”
I tell all my patients that have fibromyalgia, that it is a complex syndrome that in many cases requires a multifaceted approach. This approach typically includes: Specific chiropractic adjustments, dietary changes, supplementation, specific exercises and at times medication.
Fibromyalgia Treatment and Relief
It has been my experience that the fibromyalgia patient can get relief from all the treatments above but not consistent relief with any one of the above treatments. Each patient seems to have a treatment pattern that is most effective. It is my job as a physician to help clarify this pattern.
