Frozen Shoulder

Frozen shoulder – (Adhesive Capsulitis) This is “extremely”painful. The onset is usually gradual. Like all other joints in the body, the shoulder joint is surrounded by a capsule. The capsule wraps completely around the joint, encapsulating it. When the capsule develops adhesions, the motion in the joint will become reduced due to discomfort. In the acute phase, the discomfort ranges from a constant dull ache to pain only with movement. As more adhesions form, the pain becomes more intense, waking them at night if they roll over on that shoulder. Combing or brushing their hair becomes impossible due to the pain. These people automatically start reducing the amount of movement on their own which leads to disuse atrophy. This type of problem needs to be evaluated and treated immediately. If the above symptoms sound like you, give me a call.

Dr. Gould

If you think all your attempts at feeling better have failed… please give Dr. Gould a call!

Three years ago I ‘walked’ into Dr. Gould’s office with braces to the knees on both legs and a walker. I was overweight as well. Dr. Gould assessed my situation with great care. The braces came off, the walker was gone and within 9 months I had lost 40 pounds.  I have managed to keep them off and plan on losing more, the right way – with the diet Dr. Gould gave me, along with the whole food supplements, which do make a tremendous difference.
I have had back and leg pain from the time I was a teenager. I had a slight limp. I would lay down on my bed at night with my legs straight up against the wall because they ached so bad.  Ten years ago, I had two spinal fusions that did help, but I had residual leg and back pain. It progressed and I had to turn to Dr. Gould for help.  Dr. Gould has an extraordinary way of explaining and simplifying information. He does not hesitate to reinforce the information until the patient really understands it and is living it.  My progressive leg and back pain was diagnosed by another medical professional as a leg length discrepancy. Dr. Gould discovered it was due to a tilted pelvis. Many other areas of my spine, back and legs were effected. Gently, Dr. Gould dealt with the pain and imbalances in my whole body.  As a result, I have been able to return to my profession as a registered nurse. I would never have been able to work in this profession without the persistent and thorough help of this gifted chiropractor.

As many of  Dr. Gould’s patients have said…insurance or not, this has been, by far, the best investment of my medical dollars.  My M.D.’s are great, but they do not have the grasp of spinal issues, nor the time or means to deal with them.

Tiger Woods

Tiger Woods ChampionThe key to any achievement is commitment! Be it a world class athlete like Tiger Woods or someone that is amazingly healthy. It seems in our society where speed and instant gratification is the mindset, commitment and discipline are shunned. I’m here to tell you that discipline is Freedom! It is the bridge from where you are, to where you want to be. Commitment on any level, drives our behavior towards whatever achievement we seek. If you are reading this, more than likely you are here seeking information about a health challenge.

Being or becoming healthy both require a strategy. We all have strategies but are they serving us? That’s the question you have to ask yourself. What results are you getting? Are you satisfied with the results? If not, read on. There are many reasons people don’t feel well. Too many to write about on this post but I will name a few.

  • A simple fact that that most people rarely think about is their diet. I cannot possibly emphasize this enough, the quality of food and drink that you put into your mouth will ultimately determine the quality of the cells, tissues and organs of your body. Yes, you have heard this before. It’s true… You are what you eat! So how do you make changes in this area. Learn all you can. Ask questions? Then put together an eating plan or strategy. Once in place be disciplined. If you do, within six months you will amaze yourself.
  • Many people tell me that they cannot get started on a plan because they simply do not feel well. I tell them that is great news! They have found their starting point. They need to work on feeling better. Yes, I said “work” on feeling better. Rarely are things that impact our lives in a positive way easy. So if this is you, call me, I can get you on the road to feeling better.

It has been said that Lance Armstrong was a fanatic about all the facets of his sport. From the aged bicycle tires that he used to his diet. Not many people can ever aspire to have that kind of dedication, however, I cannot think of a better example of someone who created a plan and then worked his plan better than Lance Armstrong. My point is simple… Whatever you are looking to improve, you can!

Be Well!

Nutrition

tomatoes-strawberries.bmpNutrition is without a doubt one of the most over-looked factors in one’s health. It is a true rarity when one goes to a medical doctor, that the topic of nutrition is discussed. Instead, a prescription is written and handed to the patient. What’s sad about this scenario is the majority of health problems can be traced back to nutritional deficiencies. Instead of “correcting the deficiency” with dietary changes and supplementation, the patient is given a drug to eliminate the symptom which allows the “cause” to progress unchecked.

Nutritional deficiencies are unique to each individual. The “typical” American Diet predisposes us to nutritional deficiencies. The majority of foods people consume on a daily basis have been devitalized. An example of this would be processed foods. Even produce that has not been organically grown is devitalized.

Finding your deficiencies:

My nutritional examination is centered on the patient filling out a Symptom Survey Questionnaire. The purpose of the Symptom Survey is to allow the patient to voice the perception of his/her symptoms. Only through the quantity of questions in the Symptom Survey and the patients rating of these symptoms can the practitioner find the root cause. This information is then entered into the Nutritec Evaluation Software Program which compiles seven different levels of relationships and then creates a report that gives a complete picture of the patient’s body chemistry and then suggests what dietary changes and Whole Food Supplements would be necessary to balance the patient’s chemistry.

Workers’ Compensation

crutches1.jpgInjuries or illnesses are typically covered only when they “arise out of and in the course of employment.” There needs to be a connection between the accident that caused the injury/illness and the scope of your employment duties. Examples of compensable injuries are those caused by lifting heavy equipment, slipping on a wet or oily surface, defective machinery, or fires or explosions. Many state workers’ compensation programs preclude coverage for injuries which occur while you are not acting within the scope of your employment – such as while you are playing football with friends on your day off. But closer examination of the situation should be made – if you were injured while playing football at a company sponsored picnic, there may be coverage.

Illnesses which “arise out of and in the course of employment” can be covered under the workers’ compensation system where the working conditions present unusual or extraordinary risks of contracting an illness – such as coal miners being able to recover for black lung disease or computer workers for carpal tunnel syndrome. Careful inquiry into the hazards arising out of the scope of your employment can determine whether the illness is one that is common to everyday life as opposed to risks of illness that are present in your particular employment situation.
